Automated and Custom Degaussing Controllers

Overhead Crane handles 40 foot lengths of 10-12 inch diameter steel pipe. Lift magnets were leaving a magnetic signature of about 15-20 Gauss, sufficient to attract and retain thread cuttings and clog the operation Overhead crane lifts and handles drilling pipe multiple times, prior to the cutting and threading processes, requiring removal of magnetism.

Magnets (in yellow) lift a load of pipes, Control Cab is on the right.

Controller Installation Automated controller (circled) installed on the "backside" of the crane bridge:

In this Texas location, the controller sustains daytime surface temperatures in excess of 165°F.

Lift magnets were leaving a magnetic signature of about 15-20 Gauss, sufficient to attract and retain thread cuttings and clog the operation Lift magnets (yellow):

Magnets are each rated 8000 pound lifting force.

Cab Controls required additional festoon wiring, for interconnection of the controls and the controller Operator Controls in the Cab:

The five switches and indicator lights on the left hand side were added for the coordinated initiation and control of the ADG.  This permits the demagnetization of pipes in coordination with normal pipe lifting and transporting controls, set in yellow, on the right,

The electronic controller is essentially a standard MPS component, modified for this application Customized Controllers modified specifically for the application, provided the polarity reversal and power isolation for the coordinated powering of the lift magnet as well as coordinated timings between the MPS Auto Degauss and the crane interlocking.
