The Only Portable System with
Automatic
Full-Wave DC "Downcycling" |
MPS Auto Degauss Model D220-40-3 is the most effective demagnetizing product available today for eliminating
residual magnetism in machinery components and complex structures. It is the ideal choice
for applications, like magnetic particle inspection, which require subsequent
demagnetizing. Compact and portable, the Auto Degauss System saves you time because both
magnetizing and demagnetizing is done with the same equipment set up and cable wrap. With
variable control of power, you can demagnetize large items, such as pipelines, shafts, casings, and
bearings, in addition to small parts, such as bolts and studs. The cable is lightweight
and flexible for easy positioning when doing simple or complicated wraps. Now in its third
generation of the product line, the Auto Degauss has an improved control panel, making it
even easier to use. The MPS Auto Degauss, with its reliability and performance, will
consistently accomplish even the toughest de-magnetizing tasks.
Features And Benefits:
- Useful for many applications, such as Magnetic Particle Inspection
(NDT testing), 'Loop' or 'Core' Testing for lamination shorts in electrical machines, or
for any large object magnetizing or demagnetizing application.
- Three Operating Modes:
- Manual AC for surface demagnetizing.
- Manual DC for magnetizing.
- Automatic DC "downcycling" for sub-surface demagnetizing.
- Uses full-wave DC during "downcycling" for quality
demagnetizing.
- Engineered for ease of operation, with interlock and alarm,
preventing unwanted magnetizing.
- Audible alarm indicates Auto Degauss cycle completion for convenient
time optimization.
- Handles large or small jobs with variable demagnetizing power.
- Flexible 60 ft. cable reaches around large parts or into
"difficult to wrap" areas.
- Lightweight and Portable for field maintenance of machinery parts,
either in place or disassembled.
- Helps prevent costly downtime, reduces replacement of expensive
parts, and safeguards against unit crashes due to shaft current damage in rotating
machinery.
SMALL AND PORTABLE -
The Auto Degauss Controller is so portable that it even fits under an airline seat! The
advanced and compact design of the Auto Degauss eliminates the need for bulky
transformers, yet it provides equivalent demagnetizing power to the large
"mobile" units that can require cranes to move. The Auto Degauss is a versatile
solution because it can be used anywhere, in the shop or up on the platform!
POWERFUL -
The portable Auto Degauss, with it's powerful controller and flexible cable, can be
used to demagnetize very large and high alloy components. The superior efficiency of the
Auto Degauss means that power draw from the line equals power delivery to the cable. It
can be operated from power sources of 50 or 60 Hertz, at Voltages from 110V, for use on
smaller jobs to 300V, for use on larger jobs. With its multi-turn cable at 240 Volt power,
the Auto Degauss can deliver enough power to even demagnetize large steam turbine blading
and casings!
AUTOMATED FOR ACCURACY -
If you are currently demagnetizing with an AC demagnetizing unit, a large magnetic
particle inspection unit, or a portable welding unit under manual control, reconsider
quality! These units can be suitable for magnetizing, but do not adequately demagnetize.
Typically, they leave harmful residual magnetism behind on large parts that can later
cause trouble. The Auto Degauss is effective with the automatic DC "downcycling"
that is consistent and accurately removes residual magnetism.
MPS AUTO DEGAUSS IS THE BEST VALUE -
When compared, you will find that the Auto Degauss out performs others in automation,
power, weight, size and price. By adding the MPS Auto Degauss to your production and/or
maintenance programs, you gain ease of use and effective performance, with reliable
results every time.
AUTOMATIC DC "DOWNCYCLING" RELEASES
MAGNETISM
With the press of a button, the Auto Degauss successfully removes both deep-seated
magnetism and surface magnetism during the automatic DC "downcycling" mode. With
each step, the Auto Degauss uses a reverse polarity and applies a precalculated power
setting, to gradually reduce the magnetic field. The process of accurately
"downcycling" minimizes the number of times demagnetizing is required to remove
ill-positioned residual magnetism in parts. The Auto Degauss waits the necessary hold times
in the "downcycling" process to insure magnetic field penetration into heavy
steel sections.
The Auto Degauss System employs full-wave DC enabling it to deliver
maximum power. The process of "downcycling" strategically and systematically
draws the magnetism to zero through all quadrants of the hysteresis loop. By using the
proven Auto Degauss full-wave DC "downcycling", you are assured consistency in
demagnetizing, and savings in time and money as well.

Safeguard Rotating Machinery by Demagnetizing
After 15 years of providing demagnetizing services, MPS engineers
emphasize these important facts about magnetizing and demagnetizing:
- Residual DC magnetism can sometimes be difficult to remove,
especially in complex parts.
- Manually controlled demagnetizing techniques are unreliable and may
inject greater ill-positioned magnetism.
- Using ordinary AC power, even if pulsating, is not a reliable method
for removal of magnetism, except at the surface, or for very thin components.
Damaging shaft currents can be found in rotating equipment where
there are high speeds, close running clearances, alloy steel components and heavy
cross-sections in casings and pipings. Catastrophic failures that might occur due to
magnetic shaft current generation include rubs, thrusting, surge and welding, just to
mention a few. These occur typically in commercial, marine and utility turbines,
compressors, gears and couplings.
High magnetic fields responsible for damaging shaft currents can be
traced to welding, magnetic chucks and couplings, magnetic particle inspections,
electrical currents, static currents or lightning. Demagnetizing is a necessary preventive
maintenance procedure for rotating machinery to remove unwanted magnetism and reduce the
chances of shaft currents being generated from high residual magnetic fields.
A reliable gauss meter, like the MPS Gaussometer, should be used
routinely to take measurements on rotating machinery parts at operational shutdowns. Once
the areas of high residual magnetism are identified, effective demagnetizing can be done
with the automatic "downcycling" of the Auto Degauss.
